My husband and I have been in education for many years. We met before university and have three children. If you’d like more insight into our background, I have outlined our experience below.
Sarah
I trained as a primary teacher, graduating from the University of Warwick with a 2.1 BA (QTS) in English and Curriculum Studies in 2000. During my degree, I began working part-time in primary schools, leading lunch time clubs with ‘Tadpoles School of French’, and also began tutoring primary pupils.
We married while studying at Warwick and I became a childminder for several years while our children were young. I began a part-time teaching post in a Year 4/5mixed class, but we were not happy with the childcare for our three under- fives and my heart wasn’t in it, so I continued childminding, along with tutoring pupils in preparing for SATs, GCSE English and French.
When all three had finally started school, I worked for two years in Energy Assessment, but during this time also began working with teenagers through church. I discovered how much I enjoyed working with this age group and when a maternity cover post for an English teacher came up I went for it and started work at Blue Coat C of E School, Coventry in January 2009.
Following on from this, I worked as an English teacher in Year 7-11 at Heart of England School, Solihull for 7 years before moving to Leamington Spa. However, I had also tutored both primary and secondary pupils intermittently, and since Justin has given me a continuous link with primary education, I felt very much in touch with this age range as well.
I have also now developed a small network of tutors who I know very well on a personal level and am happy to recommend. If you need a Maths tutor, A Level English tutor or I do not have a suitable space for you with English or French, I’m very happy to share their details with you.
Currently, Sarah is tutoring a range of pupils in primary Maths and English, preparation for the 11+ / entrance exams, KS3 and GCSE English and KS3 French as well as English to new learners of the language. She has also worked as an exam marker with AQA for GCSE English Literature and has volunteered regularly in a local primary school.
Justin
Justin’s first degree is a 2.1 in English and American Literature from the University of Warwick. He then completed his PGCE and has taught in a number of primary schools across the entire primary age range in Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire, before becoming a headteacher. Justin has an MA in Education and has also written for education magazines on occasion. He now owns his own business, while continuing to use these skills with tuition.
